Saturday Morning Mist


Moist northwest flow will continue into next week. Light weather systems will ride through the flow Saturday, Monday, and Tuesday. All will have breezy conditions, light to moderate rain, and reinforcing blows of cool air. A stronger storm will move in on Thursday of next week.

Overnight: 
Increasing clouds with patchy drizzle developing. Drizzle may approach occasional light rain in the coastal mountains by dawn.. Coastal lows in the 40s with inland lows in the upper 30s to 40s in the north and upper 20s to 30s in the south.  

Saturday: Mostly cloudy with patchy drizzle/light rain early, then becoming partly cloudy and breezy with a few sprinkles possible. Highs in the 50s with a few 40s in the higher elevations.

… for the immediate coast of Monterey & Santa Cruz Counties from 9AM Saturday through 3PM Sunday.

A large swell train from the Gulf of Alaska will arrive on Saturday. Northwest swells will increase to 13 to 15 ft Saturday morning with a period of 16 to 18 seconds. Swells will start to decrease Sunday morning.

Large breaking waves of 20 to 24 ft will be possible!

Dangerous swimming and surfing conditions and localized beach erosion. Sneaker waves may sweep away unsuspecting people.

Remain out of the water due to dangerous surf conditions, or stay near occupied lifeguard towers. Rock jetties can be deadly in such conditions, stay off the rocks.


Sunday: Partly cloudy, cool, and breezy. Highs in the 50s with a few 40s in the higher elevations.

Extended: A weak system may bring some light precip early on Monday, but a better chance will come on Tuesday. Temperatures stay cool and it will remain breezy at times. We’ll get a break on Wednesday, but it will remain chilly. A stronger weather system is likely on Thursday with rain & wind.


The outlook from the Climate Prediction Center for January 18th – 24th calls for the likelihood of near normal temperatures and BELOW normal precipitation.
