From Winter To Summer

After a winter-like stretch, we’re headed straight for summer this week!
High pressure is building in from the west which will bring a much warmer air mass and keep cloudcover to a minimum. While some moisture trapped in the valleys may result in a few low clouds/fog into Monday morning, the April sun should mix them out rapidly after sunrise. This should allow for easy viewing of the partial solar eclipse that peaks at 11:12AM. Gusty north-northwest winds will continue on Monday as the ridge builds in, but winds will ease into mid-week. Temperatures will keep heading up, peaking at the coast Wednesday and for some inland areas, especially in the south, Thursday. We’ll cool down by the end of the week. More on that in the extended forecast below.

AIR QUALITY: Good

Overnight:
Mostly clear with a few low clouds and patchy fog possible in the valleys. Lows in the low to mid 40s on the coast and mid 30s to low 40s inland. Breezy on the exposed coast and in the Salinas Valley.

Monday: Mostly sunny with a few high clouds passing through. Warmer, with highs in the low 60s to around 70ºF on the coast and upper 60s to low 70s inland. Gusty northwest winds at times, especially on the coast and valleys.

Tuesday: Sunny and even warmer with widespread 70s and a few inland areas approaching 80ºF. Breezy in the valleys in the afternoon.

Extended: A few high clouds return Wednesday, but they won’t impede the climb of temperatures as most areas will be in the 70s-80s. We’ll begin to cool a bit on the coast Thursday with a few low clouds and a stronger sea breeze possible. Some southern areas will see their hottest temperatures of the week, with mid 80s possible. A trough will then dig down the coast for the end of the week with much cooler temperatures, stronger winds, and the potential for some rain. Stay tuned to the forecast.
