Monterey City Council approves first reading to lower speed limits on multiple streets

MONTEREY, Calif. (KION-TV)- The Monterey City Council approved a first reading of a proposed ordinance that world lower the speed limit along multiple streets on Tuesday night.

The proposal would decrease the speed limit by 5 miles per hour on six different street segments which are listed below.

  • Aguajito Road between Mark Thomas Drive and Monhollan Road from 40 to 35 mph
  • Del Monte Avenue between East City Limit and Sloat Avenue from 40 to 35 mph
  • Del Monte Avenue between Sloat Avenue and Camino El Estero from 35 to 30 mph
  • English Avenue between Del Monte Avenue and Northbound Highway 1 Ramps from 30 to 25 mph
  • Fairground Road between Garden Road and Airport Road from 35 to 30 mph
  • Viejo Road between Soledad Drive and within east city limits from 40 to 35 mph
