15th annual Salinas Chinatown Asian Cultural Fair

SALINAS, Calif. (KION-TV)-This year, the fair is dedicated to Salinas Chinatown's historian Wellington Lee, who recently passed away.

Many people gathered together in honor to celebrate the Asian Cultural Fair.

The event included music, food and history.

Japanese, Chinese and Filipino community members sharing their history in Salinas and Monterey County.

The fair comes as Asian American and Pacific Islander heritage month kicks off on Wednesday.

People at the event tells KION, events like these are important to honor the A-A-P-I community.

“What we need to do is to host more activities to kind of represent the show like the Asian American community in our area. May 1st is actually Asian American Pacific honor history month so when we thought about this event, we thought this was a way to end April but also kick off May to celebrate the history," Jason Agpaoa a Salinas resident said.

The festival included a walking tour, taking people back in time through Salinas Chinatown's history.

Community members also celebrated the 100th anniversary of the Buddhist Temple of Salinas.
