SANTA CRUZ COUNTY, CALIF. (KION-TV)- A crash on Highway 9 sent four bicyclists to local hospitals according to Santa Cruz County California Highway Patrol.

At approximately 6:21 p.m. Tuesday night, officers responded a crash on Highway 9, south of Glengarry Road. According to officials, an 85-year-old woman from Boulder Creek was driving a blue Kia Forte north on Highway 9, south of Glengarry Rd. At that same time, four bicyclists were traveling south on the east dirt shoulder side of Highway 9, just north of the woman's location.

For reasons still unknown at this time, the woman veered off the road and collided with the bicyclists. After that, she drove east and crashed into a tree.

The woman sustained minor injuries and wasn't transported to a hospital. Of the four bicyclists, two of them suffered major injuries and were taken by air to a nearby hospital. The other two also suffered injuries, but were transported by ambulance to nearby hospitals.

The cause of the crash is still under investigation. Officials say at this time, alcohol and/or drugs don't seem to be factors.
