GREENFIELD, Calif. (KION) The City of Greenfield announced that it is hiring a new Police Chief.

The department is hiring Gregory Allen, who was a commander and acting chief between 2015 and 2017. He is expected to start in September.

“We are very pleased and proud that Chief Allen has agreed to come (back) to Greenfield,” said City Manager Paul Wood. “The combination of his experience, demeanor, leadership, local knowledge, and relationships make him a uniquely qualified individual to serve our community.”

Allen has spent more than 40 years in law enforcement, according to the City, and rose through the ranks of the Los Angeles Police Department. He rose from officer to detective, sergeant, lieutenant and captain. Since leaving the Greenfield Police department, he has worked as the Police Chief and homeless coordinator in Morro Bay and is currently the Interim Police Chief in Willits.

Allen holds a Bachelor of Arts in criminal justice from Union Institute University of Los Angeles and a business management certificate from University of Southern California's School of Public Administration.

"I am extremely humbled and honored to return to Greenfield as your police chief,” said Allen. “I look forward to once again working with and leading the dedicated men and women of the Greenfield Police Department as we protect and serve our community.”

The last Greenfield Police Chief, Denise Oglesby, was fired at a city council meeting in December 2019. The City would not say why the chief was fired, but said it was the result of a personnel matter.
