UPDATE 1/2/2020 2:00 p.m. Daniel Macias-Victoria, the suspect in a Gonzales-area officer-involved shooting and a Salinas Chinatown-area shooting, made his first appearance in court Thursday afternoon.

Macias-Victoria pleaded not guilty to his charges, and his bail is set at $3.6 million. His next court date is set for January 14.

He is facing three counts of attempted premeditated murder of a police officer, one count of evading an officer, one count of possession of a firearm and one count of possession of drug paraphernalia.

PREVIOUS STORY: The suspect in a Gonzales-area officer-involved shooting and a Chinatown-area shooting has been booked into the Monterey County Jail, according to the Monterey County Sheriff's Office.

Daniel Macias-Victoria had been in critical condition after being shot by officers. He was booked into jail Tuesday on attempted murder, felon in possession of a handgun, evading, possession of drug paraphernalia and DUI charges. Despite being booked on one count of attempted murder, multiple attempted murder counts have been filed, according to police.

No bail is offered at this time.

On Dec. 9, Salinas police responded to a shooting in the Chinatown area that left one person injured. At the time, police said a suspect was not in custody, but the victim was expected to be okay.

Two days later on Dec. 11, Macias-Victoria, the suspect in the Chinatown shooting, apparently led police on a chase and fired a gun at them, according to the Monterey County District Attorney's Office.

The chase ended at Old Stage Road in Gonzales, and police said the suspect fired at officers again. Several officers shot back and hit Macias-Victoria. He was taken to the hospital in critical condition.

Police did not say how he became a suspect in the Chinatown shooting.

Macias-Victoria has previously been the suspect in another crime. In July 2018, a 24-year-old woman reported to the San Diego County Sheriff's Department that she had been sexually abused by Macias-Victoria when she was a child in King City.

After the first woman accused him of sexual abuse, two other potential victims came forward claiming that Macias-Victoria touched them inappropriately when they were children.

Police arrested Macias-Victoria after a year-long investigation and charged him with lewd acts with a child under 14 years of age and continuous lewd acts with a child under 14 years of age.
