GONZALES, Calif. (KION)

The Monterey County District Attorney's Office identifies the suspect in a Chinatown-area attempted homicide as Daniel Macias-Victoria.

Macias-Victoria is in critical condition after an officer-involved shooting, according to police. They said he led them on a chase and fired a gun at officers.

This is not the first time Macias-Victoria has been the suspect in a crime. In July 2018, a 24-year-old woman reported to the San Diego County Sheriff's Department that she had been sexually abused by Macias-Victoria when she was a child in King City.

After the first woman accused him of sexual abuse, two other potential victims came forward claiming that Macias-Victoria touched them inappropriately when they were children.

Police arrested Macias-Victoria after a year-long investigation and charged him with lewd acts with a child under 14 years of age and continuous lewd acts with a child under 14 years of age.

Macias-Victoria is suspected of shooting a person in the Chinatown area Sunday night. The shooting happened near the corner of California and Market Way. Neighbors heard the shots fired.

“We heard gunshots and at first I thought it was just a metallic bang, and then I noticed there were a couple more shots...maybe three,” a neighbor said.

The victim is out of the hospital. Police have not said how he became a suspect in the case.

This is the eighth officer involved shooting in Monterey County this year. Six cases, including Wednesday nights, are still open.

This is the most amount of officer involved shootings in the last five years.
