Montage Health to start a teacher health fund for Monterey County teachers

MONTEREY, Calif. (KION-TV)- Montage Health unveiled a new program that could make it easier for Monterey County educators to cover the cost of healthcare.

Montage Health donated $5 million dollars to the Community Foundation for Monterey County who will manage the funds for the Montage Health Teacher Health Fund.

Hospital officials said that full-time teachers in Monterey County are eligible for $1000 grants and part-time teachers can get $500.

Matt Morgan who is the chief financial officer for Montage Health said the program started as they are trying to lower the cost of healthcare in the community.

"What better way to put dollars in the pockets of 5,000 teachers private and public school related in Monterey County," Morgan said.

Morgan said the money will be available for teachers by the end of this school year.

The Community Foundation for Monterey County will work with local districts to facilitate the grant process.
