SANTA CRUZ, Calif. (KION)

UPDATE 10:39 p.m. - PG&E tells KION about 3,000 customers in their service area covering Santa Cruz County remain without power. This number shows a slow, but steady improvement.

5 p.m. Monday - 5,000 customers without power.

Sunday afternoon - 9,000 customers without power.

ORIGINAL REPORT:

Several roads remain closed Monday from the punishing wind that downed many trees and power lines Sunday morning.

A massive cypress tree on 40th ave. and Gross rd. toppled onto three Tesla's and covered the front of a house. Crews tell the homeowners it will take multiple days to clear the tree.

“I ran and screamed out of my room,” Stella Cucuzza said.

The cypress tree was 75-feet-tall. A crain was brought in to help remove the tree branch by branch.

In Aptos, a tree lays across Townsend rd. after falling into a neighbors fence and took out part of a deck.

“I heard the crash, and there was dust everywhere,” Aptos resident Corine Csermelyi said.

As of Monday night, eight roads were stil closed due to Sunday's storm.
