Capitola Police arrest suspect on multiple charges

CAPITOLA, CALIF. (KION-TV)- Capitola Police arrested a suspect on multiple charges after getting a call of a car being broken into Monday night.

At around 7:12 p.m., officers were dispatched to a vehicle theft that was in progress. According to a witness, a man was able to successfully break into a Mercedes in front of a Whole Foods. Even though the suspect ran off, officers were given an accurate description of the person.

An officer did find the suspect, but he ducked away down a side street where a Sergeant waited for him around the corner. Officers were able to take the suspect into custody without further incident.

The suspect was identified as 36-year-old Jose Calderon from Capitola who had multiple arrests similar to the vehicle theft he attempted. Calderon was booked into the Santa Cruz County Jail on multiple charges including felony vandalism, vehicle tampering and possession of burglary tools.
