Heating Up
The ridge of high pressure that has been sitting to our south and directing out weather for the past several days will bulge north Thursday into Friday. We can expect the warmest temperatures of the week during this period. Then, a broad trough of low pressure will slowly make its way in from the west, bringing a cooling trend, and eventually some light rain chances early next week.
Overnight: Clear and seasonable. Expect lows in the 40s for most areas, while those up in the hills will likely remain in the 50s. Breezy northerly winds up over the ridgetops.
Thursday: Mostly sunny and warmer with coastal highs in the mid-60s to around 80ºF and 80s to low 90s inland. Breezy for inland valleys in the afternoon and early evening.
Friday: Mostly sunny and just a bit cooler. A few low clouds possible on the coast late. Expect coastal highs in the mid-60s to around 80ºF and 80s to low 90s inland.
Extended: Temperatures will slowly slide downward through the weekend, approaching seasonal normal by Sunday (Mother’s Day). A weak weather system will pass by on Monday with the potential for some light rain across the area. A second system will pass by Wednesday which is worth watching as well.
The outlook from the Climate Prediction Center for May 14th-20th calls for the likelihood of BELOW normal temperatures and ABOVE normal precipitation.
