Showers Ending
High pressure will build back into
the region tomorrow, but a stretched out upper level low will remain in
position to our south. It will generate a few showers to our south which may
get close to the (Monterey/SLO) county line, but otherwise dry conditions are
expected. A cold storm system will then strengthen and dive in from the north
into the weekend. Strengthening onshore flow ahead of it will cause breezy,
cooler conditions on Friday and winds may even be gustier on Saturday. Rain is likely
starting as early as very late on Saturday, but more likely Sunday into Monday.
This system will pack very cold air for this time of year so mountain snow will
be possible. Conditions look to remain unsettled early next week.
Overnight: Showers wind
down after dark, then becoming mostly clear. Patchy fog developing in valley
bottoms. Lows in the 40s.
Thursday: Mostly sunny and warm with coastal highs in the 60s to
low 70s and 70s to around 80ºF inland.
Friday: Increasing clouds and
onshore winds. Cooler, with coastal highs in the upper 50s to low 60s with 60s
to low 70s inland.
Extended: We will cool further on Saturday as the cold storm
system pushes in from the north. A few showers will also be possible, but better
rain chances come on Sunday. Snow levels will also drop low enough that our
mountains could see some accumulation! After a couple of cold mornings, we’ll
warm up a bit through Tuesday (Saint Patrick’s Day), but conditions will remain
unsettled.
The outlook from the Climate Prediction Center for March 19th-25th calls for
the likelihood of BELOW temperatures and near normal precipitation.
