Weekend Winds

The next weather system will slide down the coast this weekend. Ahead of it, winds shift back onshore and will begin to cool the area. However, we’ll see a rapid switch to offshore winds behind the system on Sunday. Initially, offshore winds will warm coastal cities, but then more seasonable weather can be expected for the early part of next week. Some warming expected by late in the week.

Saturday: Low clouds and fog along the coast in the morning, becoming mostly sunny in the afternoon. Cooler on the coast with highs in the 50s-60s with 60s to low 70s inland. Breezy at times, especially on the exposed coast and over the ridgetops.

*Wind Advisory*
for the Santa Cruz Mountains from 7PM Saturday until 7AM Monday

- Expect North winds of 15-25mph, gusting to 45mph
- Strongest winds expected along the immediate Pacific Coastline and in elevations above 1,000 feet.

for the Diablo Range (Santa Clara County) from 7PM Saturday until 11AM Monday
- Expect north winds of 20-35mph with gusts up to 50mph

Gusty winds could blow around unsecured objects. Tree limbs could be blown down and a few power outages may result.

Use extra caution when driving, especially if operating a high profile vehicle. Secure outdoor objects.

Sunday:
Winds shift offshore behind a weak cold front. Skies will remain clear throughout the day and highs will warm into the 60s to around 70ºF, even down to the beaches. Winds will be gusty over the hills.

Extended:
Temperatures become more seasonable by Monday, though low temperatures will be chilly, especially inland. Some warming can be expected through mid-week.

The outlook from the Climate Prediction Center for February 15th – 21st calls for the likelihood of BELOW normal temperatures and BELOW normal precipitation.
