Weak Weekend System
The ridge of high pressure that has kept conditions dry for the past few days will drift east and collapse Friday, letting a weak weather system in. Another ridge will strengthen behind it, though, killing off the weather system on our doorstep. Another, similar weather system will slide by next week as well, but high pressure’s control remain the more dominant.
Overnight: Scattered high clouds with patchy fog possible in valley bottoms. Cooler, with coastal lows in the low to mid 40s and 30s inland.
Friday: Mostly clear with passing high clouds. Some low cloudcover possible late. Winds shift to the south in the afternoon and may be breezy on the exposed coast.
Saturday: Increased clouds early with a few sprinkles possible. Then, partly cloudy and a bit breezy late. Highs mainly in the upper 50s to low 60s.
Extended: Breezy northwest winds will persist on Sunday and could be gusty at times in the afternoon. Otherwise, expect mostly clear and slightly cool conditions. High temperatures will slowly warm next week, though lows will cool down. Tuesday morning is likely to be the coldest with frosty conditions likely inland. A mid-week system may add a few clouds, but not much else. The next chance of rain may hold off until the 11th-13th or so.
The outlook from the Climate Prediction Center for January 10th – 16th calls for the likelihood of BELOW normal temperatures and ABOVE normal precipitation.
