Unsettled Holiday

Unsettled weather will continue for the next two days as a cold, upper level low moves off to the east. Showers and mountains snow remain likely. A warmer, wetter weather system will take aim at the coast this weekend, however. Rain could be heavy over a long duration in the coastal mountains on Sunday.

*Winter Weather Advisory*
The National Weather Service has issued a Winter Weather Advisory until 10AM Thursday above 2500 ft in the Santa Lucia Mountains and Los Padres National Forest in Monterey County.

Total snow accumulations 5 to 8 inches with locally higher amounts above 4000 ft. Total snow accumulations of 3 to 6 inches between 3000 ft and 4000 ft. Total snow accumulations of 1 to 3 inches between 2500 ft and 3000 ft.

Slick, snow-covered roads and hiking trails. Hikers, campers, and outdoor enthusiasts with Thanksgiving week plans in Santa Lucia Mountains and Los Padres National Forest may encounter dangerous winter-like conditions above the snow level. Heavier snow showers could produce limited visibilities.

Overnight: Partly to mostly cloudy with scattered showers. Some showers may contain small hail and a rumble of thunder can’t be ruled out. Accumulating snowfall likely over 2,500ft in elevation with snowflakes possible down to 1,500ft.

Thanksgiving: Partly to mostly cloudy with isolated showers. Snow possible above 2,500ft. Chilly, with highs in the mid 40s to low 50s.

Friday: Partly cloudy with isolated rain shower possible. Chilly in the morning and cool in the afternoon. Highs in the 40s-50s.

Extended: By the weekend, another weather system will slide into the west coast with gusty winds and rain. It will take a while to organize on Saturday, so expect a slight warm up and increasing clouds with light rain late in the day. Heavier rain is possible on Sunday as an atmospheric river aims at the coast. The position and duration remains to be determined, but this could be a very wet storm.

The outlook from the Climate Prediction Center for December 5th - 11th calls for the likelihood of ABOVE normal temperatures and ABOVE normal precipitation.
