Cooling Through Mid-Week
SALINAS, Calif. (KION) – Expect a cooling trend through mid-week. A trough of low pressure develops on the West Coast, cooling temperatures aloft and allowing for the marine layer to deepen. All areas will cool Tuesday and some will continue on Wednesday.
Air Quality: Good to Moderate
Overnight: Low clouds for the coast and major inland valleys with patchy fog possible. Can’t rule out a spritz of drizzle as well. Other areas will be mostly clear with a few high clouds passing through. Lows in the upper 40s to around 50ºF at the coast with mid-30s to mid-40s for inland valleys.
Tuesday: Low clouds retreat to the coast by late morning but may linger in coastal cities throughout the day. Cooler overall with highs in the upper 50s to mid-60s on the coast and upper 60s to low 80s inland. Breezy onshore winds around the river mouths then windy up valleys late in the day. Low clouds thicken again late with patchy drizzle possible.
Wednesday: Widespread low clouds with patchy drizzle early, then mostly cloudy at the coast and mostly sunny inland for the afternoon. Cool on the coast with highs in the upper 50s to mi-60s and the cool-down continues inland with highs dropping into the 60s to low 70s. Breezy northwesterly onshore winds becoming windy up valleys late in the day.
Extended: Winds pick up on Thursday as a weather system approaches from the West. By late Friday/early Saturday, a cold front will arrive on the West Coast and could bring some rain to the region. Shower chances continue into Saturday before high pressure rebuilds next week. There is still a lot of uncertainty regarding the weekend system, so stay tuned to the forecast.
