Monterey Police arrest a man in connection to arson

MONTEREY, CALIF. (KION-TV)- Monterey Police arrest a man connected to a trash fire that happened in a bar last weekend.

On March 23 at around 10:02 p.m., officers were dispatched to Compact Disco at 420 Tyler Street, for a trash can fire that happened in the restroom. Compact Disco’s employees quickly extinguished the fire, but it completely melted the plastic restroom trash can. No one was injured as a result of the fire.

During an investigation of the incident, it was learned that 64 year old John Sovereign of Monterey started the fire. On March 24th at around 8 p.m., police contacted Sovereign and arrested him for arson.

Sovereign was taken and booked into the Monterey City Jail. His bail was set at $15,000.
