Two Salinas men arrested for open alcohol containers in public, deputies find ghost gun

SALINAS, Calif. (KION-TV)- The Monterey County Sheriff's Office said that two Salinas men were arrested after they were seen with open alcohol containers in public on Tuesday.

Deputies said the incident took place around 1 p.m. when they were in the area of North First Street and East Curtis Street in Salinas.

Deputies saw two men walking in public with open alcohol beverage containers.

The Sheriff's Office contacted the two men who they identify as 20-year-old Mario Pineda and 35-year-old Edward Carranza of Salinas.

Deputies found Pineda was in possession of a loaded and concealed unserialized firearm which is known as a "ghost gun."

According to deputies, Carranza was found to be in possession of methamphetamine. Deputies arrested Pineda and Carranza without incident.

Pineda was booked at the Monterey County Jail on multiple charges including possession of a loaded firearm in public, carrying a concealed weapon, possession of an unserialized firearm and possession of an open alcohol container.

Pineda's bail was set at $30,000, according to Monterey County Sheriff's Office.

Carranza was booked and charged with possession of a controlled substance and possession of an open alcohol container. His bail was set at $20,000.
