Caltrans gives update on Highway 1 slide repairs

BIG SUR, Calif. (KION-TV)- Caltrans gave an update on multiple slides that have taken place on Highway 1 along Big Sur Coast.

Crews have been working on three slides at Dolan Point, Regent's Slide and Paul's Slide. Caltrans said that multiple rain storms have impacted repairs.

Caltrans said that Highway 1 remains closed from north at Lime Creek and from southbound just south of Limeklin State Park. Crews said there is an estimated 12.1 miles.

Highway 1 is still open from Carmel to just south of the Esalen Institute from Cambia area to just south of Limeklin State Park.

Work at Dolan Point is estimated to be done on May 1 and crews will be installing a permanent cable net system on the face of the slope once repair work is complete.

Caltrans will be looking to reopen the Paul's Slide area for drivers by late spring.

Final repair design has been agreed upon for the Regent's Slide area.

Once work starts, Caltrans says crews will finish the repairs in 100 working days and they will open that part of Highway 1.

Caltrans said that Highway 1 at Paul's Slide will reopen while repair work at Regent's Slide is ongoing.

There are still daily convoys being made through Paul's Slide in the north and southbound directions at 8 a.m. and 4 p.m.

Repairs at Dolan Point Slide to be done by May, Caltrans says

Caltrans is continuing work on three major slides along Highway 1 in Big Sur.

Caltrans said crews are expected to complete repairs in the next few weeks at Dolan Point Slide.

Crews are also planning to install a system to protect the Highway from any rockfall in the future.

Caltrans said they expect all repairs at Dolan Point Slide to be completed by May 1.

Crews are still working on finalizing a site design to fix repairs at Regent’s Slide which is at mile marker 27.8.

Caltrans said that once they get final approval from environmental agencies, then they will be able to provide a timeline at Regent's Slide.

Daily convoys are still running through Paul’s Slide in the north and southbound direction at 8 a.m. and 4 p.m. Crews are still working on finishing repairs at Paul's Slide which is expected to reopen late spring 2024.

Caltrans said that a new rockslide has expanded the southern closure of Highway 1 in Big Sur

Caltrans said the southern closure of Highway 1 is near Limekiln to south of Salmon Creek.

The northern closure remains at Dolan Point and Caltrans is clearing the southbound lane.

Crews will begin clearing the northbound lane when the rain subsides.
