King City Police arrest one person after an attempted homicide investigation

KING CITY, CALIF. (KION-TV)- King City Police, along with partnering units, arrested one person connected to an attempted homicide on Monday.

According to officials, King City Police Officers were dispatched to alleyway behind the 600 Block of Meyer Street at around 6:00 p.m. for reports of shots fired. When officers arrived on scene, they found evidence that confirmed a shooting did happen in the area. While looking at surveillance video in the area, officers were able to identify both the victims and suspects vehicles.

Officials say the victims vehicle had five adults inside of it at the time of the shooting.

No one was injured as a result. The suspects vehicle was identified and found at a home on the 700 block of Talbot Street.

The King City Police Department Investigations Unit were able to obtain a search warrant to serve at the home on Talbot Street. With the help of the Salinas SWAT team, Greenfield Police Department and Salinas Valley State Prison’s Investigative Services Unit, the warrant was served.

During the warrant search, officers found 18-year-old Andrew Mares in the home. Mares was arrested and booked into the Monterey County Jail on five counts of attempted murder.
