Delays expected for road work on Lighthouse scheduled for May 6

MONTEREY, Calif. (KION-TV) -- The City of Monterey says people should expect delays on Lighthouse from May 6 to May 9 as major roadwork is scheduled to begin.

Work on the northbound lanes of Lighthouse toward Pacific Grove will start at 6 a.m. and go until 5 p.m.. Northbound lanes toward Downtown Monterey will begin at 9 a.m. and go through 5 p.m.

The city says this is for slurry seal work to be done, which is applied in order to protect the underlying pavement.

The work is expected to cause a considerable amount of delays on Lighthouse and neighboring streets.

Lanes will stay closed until the seal is dry and set.

Here's a breakdown of where some of the work is expected to be done:

  • Monday, 5/6 - Lighthouse from David to Drake, both directions (outside lanes)
  • Tuesday, 5/7 - Lighthouse from David to Drake, both directions (inside lanes)
  • Wednesday, 5/8 - Lighthouse from Drake to Lighthouse Curve, both directions (outside lanes). Work on northbound Lighthouse will begin at Lighthouse Curve. Work on southbound Lighthouse towards Downtown Monterey will end at Pvt. Bolio Rd
  • Thurs., 5/9 -Lighthouse from Drake to Lighthouse Curve, both directions (inside lanes). Work on northbound Lighthouse will begin at Lighthouse Curve. Work on southbound Lighthouse towards Downtown Monterey will end at Pvt. Bolio Rd

The city says if work is impacting a resident's ability to get home or if they need special accommodations to contact the city's engineering office at 831-646-3997 or email suggest@monterey.gov
