SALINAS, Calif. (KION-TV)- A Kansas plane looking to break a world record for the fastest flight around the world made their first stop in the Salad Bowl Capital of the World.

The flight is called the Century Mission which is taking place on the 100 year anniversary of the first ever world flight in 1924.

The mission began in Wichita, KS on Wednesday and stopped to refuel at the Salinas Airport just before 1 a.m. before setting off to Hawaii.

Ryan Gauger who is the president of Jet West says the Salinas Airport could have a part in history.

The flight is expected to take 54 hours and 30 minutes with 11 stops along the way.

In 1924, the first flight around the world took 175 days and 74 stops to complete.
