Salinas man dead after being hit by a car while crossing Highway 101 at Crazy Horse Canyon Road

PRUENDALE, Calif. (KION-TV)- A 23-year-old Salinas man is dead after he was hit by a car while trying to cross southbound Highway 101 at Crazy Horse Canyon Road late Saturday night.

According to the California Highway Patrol, the crash occurred at 11:30 p.m.. Officers said a 23-year-old Salinas man was wearing dark clothing when he attempted to cross the southbound lanes on Highway 101 just north of Crazy Horse Canyon Road late Saturday night.

Officers said that a 26-year-old Hollister woman was driving a 2020 Honda Civic around 65 mph on Southbound Highway 101 when the man was struck by the Civic.

The woman exited at Crazy Horse Canyon Road and waited for officers to arrive.

The CHP said the men was pronounced dead on scene by fire fighters. The 26-year-old Hollister woman was transported to Natividad Medical Center for minor injuries.

Investigators said it is unknown if alcohol or drugs were a factor in this crash. Officers said the woman was not driving under the influence.
