People trying to stay cool amid heatwave in San Benito County
HOLLISTER, Calif. (KION-TV): The heat wave continues and many are looking for ways to stay cool.
Some people even find it strange that it's been so hot this fall.
"I can't remember being this hot in October, so it's very strange," said George Lecrenn, who lives in Hollister.
Lecreen says that he has a couple of things he does to stay cool.
"Try to avoid the mid-afternoon heat and try to consolidate any sort of activities that I need to do that are outside like in the morning or later in the afternoon," said Lecrenn.
The Office of Emergency Services in San Benito County said people have been going to the cooling centers this week to try to stay cool. There are two cooling centers in the county, one at the San Juan library, and the San Benito County library in Hollister.
County officials want people to stay safe during these hot temperatures.
"We recommend [people] drink plenty of fluids, stay in cooler areas, out of the son, and make sure if they're warm, they are going to those cooler areas," said Chelsi Brown with the Office of Emergency Services.
The Office of Emergency Services said it's extremely important not to leave pets or children inside cars when it's hot. And for people who work outside or for the unhoused, the county suggest the following:
"We are suggesting wear cooler, lighter clothes; keep yourself hydrated. Stay in cooler areas and in the shade whenever possible," said Brown.
The cooling centers in San Benito County will remain open on Friday.
