First responders prepare for rain and wind-filled weekend at AT&T Pebble Beach Pro-Am
PEBBLE BEACH, Calif. (KION) - As the focus shifts from amateurs to professionals at the AT&T Pebble Beach Pro-Am, first responders are keeping a close eye on the forecast for the weekend.
CAL FIRE Captain Curtis Rhodes said crews are expecting similar conditions to last year.
"This afternoon they stated that they are anticipating up to 50 mph winds with gusts up to 70," Rhodes said.
With those strong winds, temporary structures lining the course are now a concern.
"When we reach that 30mph threshold, all of the tents will be evacuated at that time for the safety of anybody inside of the tents," Rhodes said. "We will not shut down the tournament at that time. We will start making reassessments, but there will be no re-entry into any of these temporary structures."
After last year's stormy tournament, first responders are well-prepared for this year.
"If we have to evacuate people out of here everything has already been structured and in place from the start of the tournament," Rhodes said. "This is something that we forecast for every year."
Following Friday's second round, the competition will now move solely to Pebble Beach, where conditions will continue to be closely monitored.
