88-year-old pedestrian treated for major injuries after Aptos crash

APTOS, Calif. (KION) An 88-year-old Aptos man is being treated for major injuries after the California Highway Patrol said he was hit by a vehicle.

Investigators said the crash happened Friday just before 2 p.m. The driver of the vehicle, identified as 29-year-old Joseph Granados, was heading east on Freedom Boulevard west of Mariner Way when the man was walking to his mailbox.

The CHP said the Honda hit the man and mailboxes on the south shoulder of Freedom Boulevard.

The pedestrian was taken to Dominican Hospital before being flown to Valley Medical Center for treatment. Granados was not injured.

The cause of the crash is still under investigation, but the CHP said Granados is suspected of driving under the influence of drugs and was arrested.
