Scams targeting elderly community members reported in Santa Cruz County

SANTA CRUZ COUNTY, Calif. (KION) The Santa Cruz County Sheriff's Office is reminding people to be vigilant after it received two reports over the past week of a scam targeting the elderly.

Investigators say the scammers call posing as a grandchild in trouble who says they need money to bail out of jail. The Sheriff's Office said the scammers sometimes use personal information to get the victim to trust them.

Anyone who has lost money to a scam is asked to call the Sheriff's Office at 831-471-1121.
