Another COLD Night Ahead

Air Quality Report (As of 7:00PM)
All reporting stations are good.

Many of you will wake up to frost once again Tuesday morning. A cold, dense air mass remains in place over the state and with clear skies overnight, air temperatures will drop down into the 20s and 30s across the region. Frost and freeze alerts are in place for some areas (see the text below), but all inland & mountain valleys are likely to see at least patchy frost with some frost even approaching coastal cities.
The weather pattern does remain active, and several weak weather systems are lined up to reach the coast later this week. Clouds will be on the increase late Tuesday ahead of the first which may bring a few sprinkles to the area Wednesday. Another system Thursday into Friday is looking more likely to bring light rain. A third system Saturday could bring additional light rain. The pattern looks to remain active next week too with perhaps a stronger (wetter) system waiting in the wings. Stay tuned! In the meantime, temperatures are expected to remain cool for this time of year, though lows won’t be quite as frosty & cold later this week.

Overnight:
Another clear and cold night with lows in the 20s to low 30s for inland valley where frost is once again LIKELY. Coastal spots will be in the 30s where frost may be possible in low, sheltered areas.

***FREEZE WARNING***
From the National Weather Service in Monterey:
… for the Southern Salinas Valley, Arroyo Seco, San Antonio Valley
… from 3AM Tuesday until 9AM Tuesday.

Expect sub-freezing temperatures in the mid-20s to around 30ºF.

Frost and freeze conditions will kill crops, other sensitive vegetation and possibly damage unprotected outdoor plumbing.

Take steps now to protect tender plants from the cold. To prevent freezing and possible bursting of outdoor water pipes they should be wrapped, drained, or allowed to drip slowly. Those that have in-ground sprinkler systems should drain them and cover above-ground pipes to protect them from freezing. Ensure all animals have a warm and dry shelter.

**Frost Advisory**
From the National Weather Service in Monterey:
… for the northern Salinas Valley, Carmel Valley/68 Corridor, lower valleys of San Benito County.
… from 3AM Tuesday until 9AM Tuesday.

Temperatures as low as 30 will result in frost formation.

Frost could kill sensitive outdoor vegetation if left uncovered.

Take steps now to protect tender plants from the cold. Ensure all animals have a warm and dry shelter.

Tuesday: Mostly sunny with increasing high and low clouds late. Slightly warmer in the afternoon with highs in the mid-50s to mid-60s. Briefly breezy on the exposed coast in the early evening.

Wednesday (Veterans Day): Mostly cloudy and cool with lows in the 30s and highs in the 50s. A few sprinkles possible.

Extended: Lows will warm into the 30s-40s for the remainder of the week with highs in the 50s-60s. We’ll see rain chances late Thursday into Friday and perhaps again on Saturday, though it is not looking all that widespread or heavy. Best chances will be in the Santa Cruz Mountains. The pattern will remain active into next week with more rain possible.
