MONTEREY COUNTY, Calif. (KION) Three distribution points have opened to help fire evacuees returning home.

Some homes may be without water or their water systems may have lost pressure, so bottled water will be distributed as well as comfort kits and personal protective equipment.

The Commodity Points of Distribution are open at these locations through Friday from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m.

  • Greenfield Memorial Hall, 615 El Camino Real, Greenfield
  • Carmel Valley Village near the Chevron station
  • The intersection of Tassajara and Carmel Valley Roads

To test whether a home maintained positive pressure during the fire, county officials suggest turning on a faucet to see if water comes out and said you should not hear any air being released.

If you hear air coming from the faucet with water spurting out intermittently, the well and household plumbing may have lost pressure and the county said it should be checked to determine if it is safe.
