Watsonville resident arrested for allegedly having a kilo of heroin, illegal assault rifle

WATSONVILLE, Calif. (KION) A Watsonville man has been arrested on drug and gun charges after police served a high-risk search warrant.

Watsonville police said they found a kilo of heroin with a street value of about $80,000 and an illegal short-barreled assault rifle during the search on Wilkie Avenue.

Police arrested 29-year-old Gerardo Valencia. He was booked into the Santa Cruz County Jail on possession of a controlled substance for sale and possession of an illegal weapon charges.

There was a shelter in place issued in the area around Wilkie Avenue near Palm Avenue and California Street while the search was underway.
