One person killed when vehicle goes off cliff south of Big Sur Village

BIG SUR, Calif. (KION) One person has died and a dog was found alive after a vehicle went over a cliff Tuesday near Coast Gallery and south of Big Sur Village.

Big Sur Fire, the Monterey County Sheriff's Office, State Parks and the California Highway Patrol responded to the crash that happened at around 3:45 p.m. A rescuer was sent 700 feet down a cliff and followed a debris trail.

A firefighter found one person who died and a dog that was still alive.

A CHP helicopter, the Sheriff's Office and a firefighter worked together to recover the body.

The CHP and the Monterey County Coroner's Office are investigating.
