One dead after head-on collision with semi-truck

PRUNEDALE, Calif. (KION) A young woman is dead after her vehicle collided with an oncoming semi-truck along Highway 156 Saturday night.

Officials with the California Highway Patrol and Monterey County Sheriff's Office responded to the scene just west of Oak Hills Drive at approximately 11:03 p.m.

Upon arrival, they discovered an overturned 2016 Dodge Dart they say drifted into oncoming traffic before colliding with the truck.

The 21-year-old driver and Grover Beach resident was pronounced dead at the scene.

The driver of the semi, 45-year-old Jonathan Young of Live Oak, was not injured.

The crash remains under investigation. Authorities do not know if drugs or alcohol played a role at this time.
