Rain In The North Tonight
The tail end of a storm system
impacting the Pacific Northwest will continue to generate light rain around the
Monterey Bay Area overnight. High pressure will push in for the remainder of
the week with warmer, dryer weather expected. The next weather system will
arrive this weekend with mainly light rain on Sunday.
*Beach Hazards*
… through Wednesday morning for the immediate coast of Monterey & Santa
Cruz Counties.
-A long period northwesterly swell will bring large breaking waves and an increased threat of sneaker waves and rip currents to area beaches.
Large breaking waves will generate hazardous conditions on area beaches. This threat will be maximized on steeply sloped beaches. Rip currents can pull swimmers and surfers out to sea. Large breaking waves can cause injury, wash people off beaches and rocks, and capsize small boats near shore.
Overnight: Mostly cloudy on the coast and inland north and partly
cloudy inland south. Light rain at times around the Monterey Bay Area with
mostly sprinkles inland south. Breezy southwesterly winds on the exposed coast
at times. Lows mainly in the 40s to low 50s.
Wednesday: A few sprinkles linger through the morning commute, then
decreasing clouds. A touch warmer with highs in the upper 50s to mid 60s.
Thursday: Patchy am fog, then mostly
sunny with passing high clouds. Warmer, with coastal highs in the upper 50s to
mid 60s and 60s to around 70ºF inland.
Extended: Another mostly sunny, mild to (almost) warm day on Friday and likely
early Saturday. The next weather system will bring rain to the region as early
as late Saturday and more likely on Sunday. Expect a brief cool-down with highs
in the 50s, then warmer weather next week.
The outlook from the Climate Prediction Center for January 29th – February
