New projectile incident on Highway 101 near Dunbarton Sunday night
AROMAS, Calif. (KION) The California Highway Patrol said an SUV was hit by a projectile on Highway 101 near Dunbarton Road Sunday night.
The driver's window was shattered by the projectile at around 8 p.m., but nobody was injured.
Since February 2019, there have been 68 reports of projectiles in the area.
The CHP said patrol officers and a task force are continuing to investigate the incidents and that they are following up on several leads every day.
"We're getting a lot of tips and other information daily and our
investigators are actively following up on every single new lead that we
get," said Capt. Kyle Foster.
"It's a shame. I mean, somebody could get injured, lose an eye or get in an
accident and go cross traffic and kill somebody," said Marcus Dutra, an Aromas resident.
At last check, the reward for information leading to the arrest and conviction of the person or persons involved was at $15,000.
Investigators are still tight-lipped on the details of the case. CHP is still not telling media what type of projectile is hitting cars or if it is multiple people doing this.
"I think personally that he could've been caught by now by simple technology," said Ricky Diaz Jr., who created a projectile Facebook page for people to gather and chat about what has been happening.
Many residents in the area are already frustrated with the lack of an arrest after months of attacks.
Some people on social media say they wish CHP would release more info or use drones to scope the area. Others are confident law enforcement will succeed eventually in catching the suspects.
CHP says if you have a dash camera pointing toward your driver's side of your car, it may help with the investigation if you are hit by a projectile.
"If it happens, I'll be on top of trying to get it resolved what happened to me," said Dutra. "But I try to just look forward and not look for anything negative. Keep my life simple."
CHP is hopeful they will solve this case in the near future. They thank the public for their patience in all this.
