SISKIYOU COUNTY, Calif. (KION) The Siskyou County Sheriff's Office is asking for help finding the person or persons responsible for the murder of a former Santa Cruz County resident back in April.

The Siskiyou County Sheriff's Office is working with the Santa Cruz County Sheriff's Office to gather information because the victim had friends and other people he knew in the Santa Cruz County area.

On April 8, 2019, the Siskiyou County Sheriff's Office responded to a report of a dead body in the Klamath River area northwest of Yreka. There they found the body of 31-year-old Spencer Richard Hodgson in a ravine. Hodgson was living in the Klamath River area at the time.

After an autopsy, a pathologist confirmed that Hodgson's cause of death was homicide and that he died from gunshot wounds.

Deputies found Hodgson's dog, who was alive and well, and his missing pickup truck. The truck is being used as a source of potential evidence.

Detectives in Siskiyou County conducted interviews, served search warrants and found some potential evidence, but said leads have dissipated over time.

Investigators said virtually any information could be important to the case and believe someone in the Santa Cruz County area could know something about what happened.

A $50,000 reward is being offered for information leading to the arrest and conviction of the person or persons responsible for Hodgson's death.

Anyone with information about Hodgson's activities before his death on April 8, no matter how minor, are asked to call the Siskiyou County Sheriff's Office at 530-842-8318 and refer to case number 1-19-0547
