Meet some of the first Monterey County babies born in 2020
SALINAS, Calif. (KION) With the new year comes new beginnings, and some Monterey County families were among the first to get new arrivals.
Melissa Rangel and Edger Valdez welcomed their third child Wednesday morning, and he became the first Monterey County baby born in 2020.
Isaac was born at 1:23 a.m. at Salinas Valley Memorial Hospital. He was 8 pounds, 7 ounces and 19 inches long. He was also a week early.
“We didn’t expect him until January 7th,” said his mother. “He’s beautiful and we feel very blessed.”
Isaac has already met his older siblings, 4-year-old Mateo and 3-year-old Emma, via FaceTime.
Isaac's birthday is even more special for his parents- it's not only the start of a new decade, it's their wedding anniversary.
In Monterey, the first baby born at the Community Hospital of the Monterey Peninsula this year was Henry Liam Mullis. He was also an early arrival, born three weeks before his due date.
Henry was born at 6:38 a.m. He weighed in at 5 pounds, 15 ounces. He was introduced to his two sisters in Seaside, 6-year-old Melanie and 4-year-old Amelia, earlier today. His mother, Nathalie, said the girls broke into tears of excitement during the call.
Henry's father, randy, is in the Air Force and is studying Spanish at the Defense Language Institute. The family expects to return home to their extended family in Florida later this year.
