Santa Cruz County sees spike in vehicle burglaries

SANTA CRUZ COUNTY, Calif. (KION) The Santa Cruz County Sheriff's Office said it has seen a spike in vehicle burglaries this holiday season.

Over the past few weeks, the Sheriff's Office has received reports of:

  • 12 burglaries between Nov. 25 and Dec. 1
  • 7 burglaries between Dec. 2 and Dec. 8
  • 18 burglaries between Dec. 9 and Dec. 15
  • 15 burglaries between Dec. 16 and Dec. 22
  • 18 burglaries between Dec. 23 and Dec. 29

The Sheriff's Office suggests that everyone takes their belongings out of the vehicle, including cords or cables. It also suggests parking in well-lit areas and locking doors.
