SANTA CRUZ, Calif. (KION) Santa Cruz police were able to return a stolen bike to a man fighting cancer recently.

A member of the community saw the bike behind a building and turned it over to police. They then started trying to track down the owner.

Police started by contacting Santa Cruz Bicycles, who said they sold the bike to the Family Cycling Center. Luckily, the owner of the bike had been to the shop to see if it had been returned and left his contact information.

Officers were able to return the $5,600 bike to the owner, who is battling cancer. Because of his treatment, he can only leave the facility on limited occasions, but his goal is to ride the bike again when he beats cancer.
