New surveillance video of Watsonville lottery scam suspect

Watsonville police released new surveillance video of a woman accused of conning a resident out of thousands of dollars by claiming to have a “winning” lottery ticket.

According to police, the footage provides a better look at the suspect.

Watsonville police said the suspect is seen entering the store with the victim on the morning of October 11th. Detectives believe the suspect was wearing a white baseball cap. She is in her 50s and is a Spanish speaker.

The woman was also seen with an accomplice, a man also believed to be in his 50s, wearing a gray hat and shirt. Police believe they convinced the victim to hand over nearly $6,000.

The suspects told the victim they were unable to cash the lottery ticket because of their legal status. They then drove off in a silver Chrysler Pacifica.

Watsonville Police have heard from residents across the Central Coast about similar scams. Police said the crimes often go unreported because victims are embarrassed.

Police are encouraging victims to come forward.

Anyone with information on the case is asked to call Detective Nelson Hernandez at 831-768-3358.
