Rep. Jimmy Panetta visits Food Bank for Monterey County

The Food Bank for Monterey County showed off its new facility today to Congressman Jimmy Panetta (D-CA). The food bank moved to a new building last February.

The new location has a kitchen for nutrition and cooking classes, an area to keep fresh produce refrigerated and space to pack food for families.

The food banks serves one in five Monterey County residents.

“Even though we’re surrounded by fresh fruits and vegetables, people don’t have access to those fresh fruits and vegetables, and so knowing that there is the food bank that is actually supplying food to families, to children, to students, Hartnell, MPC, and CSUMB and to our veterans,” said Panetta.

Panetta said seeing the work at the food bank motivates him to ensure in Washington, D.C. that supplemental nutrition assistance programs are fully funded and to make sure that the administration is prevented from making it more difficult for people to meet eligibility requirements to get nutritious meals.
