Governor approves $5 million in state budget for Salinas Regional Soccer Complex

Governor Gavin Newsom signed budget legislation approving $5 million in the state budget for the Salinas Regional Soccer Complex on Friday.

Assembly member Robert Rivas (D-Hollister) and Sen. Anna Caballero (D-Salinas) worked together to request the funding for the project.

“This investment will go a long way in helping to foster health and vibrant local small businesses. A soccer complex of this size has the potential to draw large tournaments, bringing extensive economic benefits to the surrounding area,” Rivas said.

He adds that this project has spanned more than a decade. He says it will help the fight against health issues like obesity and diabetes and that it also provides safe, affordable recreational activities.

Organizers of the project want to put it across from Constitution Park by Natividad.
