Senior prank hopes to keep Carmel High principal on the job

A senior prank at Carmel High School was done with a serious purpose in mind.

A group of Carmel High School students put up hundreds of posters around campus today showing their support for Principal Rick Lopez who is said to be losing his position this year.

Students tell KION that they put up about 1500 of these posters of Principal Lopez around the school to make a statement.

They also want more answers from the district about why he is being reassigned.

Students wrote phrases on windows like “Lopez we will miss you,” and “Give us Lopez.”

Sarah Morgan, a Carmel High School senior who is leading the movement said they would rather make a peaceful statement for their senior prank than do something destructive.

“We all really love him as a class and I know the administration-he’s been here for a long time, and so we weren’t really happy with that decision,” said Morgan.

The district and a spokesperson said they want a fresh perspective.
