Santa Cruz murder suspect apprehended in Mexico

A cold case suspect was apprehended in Mexico in connection to the 2009 murder of a 16-year-old Santa Cruz boy.
According to the Santa Cruz County District Attorney’s Office, Tyler Tenorio, a junior at Santa Cruz High was stabbed to death after he and his friends got into an argument with a group of gang members outside the 7-11 at Chestnut and Laurel Streets.
The deadly incident happened ten years ago on Oct. 16.
Santa Cruz police officers responded and found Tenorio laying on the ground suffering from multiple stab wounds to his upper torso. Tenorio died at the scene.
Detectives identified 32-year-old Ivan Tapia Ramirez as a suspect.
“Ramirez, a citizen of the United States, fled the jurisdiction and was hiding in Mexico,” said the DA’s Office.
The DA’s office extradited Ramirez back to the United States to face murder charges on Feb. 24, 2019.
Ramirez is being held in custody on charges of murder and is awaiting arraignment in Santa Cruz Superior Court.
