Three gang members busted during compliance checks in Santa Cruz County

Three known gang members were arrested during a series of compliance checks at homes in south Santa Cruz County.

The Santa Cruz County Anti Crime Team’s Gang Task Force and officers from the Santa Cruz County Probation Department checked up on 19 felons on Thursday.

27-year-old Ryan Lara of Watsonville, who was on probation for prior weapons violation, was located near his car in the 200 block of Sunnyhills Drive. During a search of his car officers found ammunition in the center console.

Lara was arrested for felon in possession of ammunition and violating probation.

Officers searched 21-year-old Angel Fernandez’ home in the 100 block of Vista Del Lago Ct in Watsonville. A loaded .40 caliber semi-auto firearm was found in Fernandez’ car.

“The firearm had been reported stolen out of Monterey County,” said Commander George Rivera.

Fernandez was arrested and taken to Santa Cruz County Jail.

A 17-year-old Watsonvlle boy was arrested for violating probation after gang paraphernalia was found in his bedroom. The teen was later released to a family member.
