Monterey Comic Con invades conference center

Monterey residents, don’t freak out if you see cartoon characters coming to life around your city this weekend. It’s all in the name of fun.

Normally if you saw Deadpool or the Terminator walking in your path, you’d have a logical reason to worry. But this weekend in the Monterey Conference Center, you should expect it!

It’s the third annual Monterey Comic Con! It’s an event that brings out the best fans of comic books, video games, and pop culture. Those who attend will be able to participate in a cosplay contest, which is basically like a pop-culture-costume contest, meet a couple tv stars, or even participate in the highly-anticipated geek fashion show. It’s the event that founders say comic fans here on the peninsula have needed.

“Our Comic Con is not the giant one thats built for Hollywood and all that, it’s made for the fans. It’s a bit smaller event, couple thousand people show up, we all have lots of fun, and we have lots of events for them,” said Monterey Comic Con Founder Sheldon Birch.

It’s not just dressing up though. Memorabilia collectors looking to add that last piece to their collection might just find it there. Vendors will be selling their old wares through the weekend, and you might be able to get yourself drawn into a comic as well!

Monterey Comic Con will be going on at the new Monterey Conference Center from Friday through Sunday, so head on down if you can.
