Watsonville police recover guns, drugs, and dog from homeless encampment

Community members reported illegal camping in Watsonville, leading to the arrest of five people and the recovery of guns, drugs and even a dog.

The Watsonville Police Department said illegal camping was reported in the 700 block of Ohlone Parkway.

“Our officers responded and followed several trails in the heavy brush to find the encampment,” said WPD.

43-year-old John Murillo was one of the five arrested Thursday.

WPD said Murillo is a felon and had two guns, ammunition and drugs. He was booked into Santa Cruz County Jail.

“As for the bulldog, Chica, she’s in good hands. Our officers turned her over to Animal Control.”
