Firefighters battling wildland fire in Aptos Hills

UPDATE: 8/30/2017 3:07 p.m Forward progress has been stopped on the 2-3 acre fire burning on Cox Road in Aptos.

Cal Fire said crews are still on scene and will be committed throughout the night mopping up.

PREVIOUS STORY:

A wildland fire is burning in the Aptos Hills in Santa Cruz County.

According to the California Highway Patrol, a fire broke out around 1:15 p.m. Firefighters are on scene fighting the fire near Cox Road.

Cal Fire said the fire is holding at 2-3 acres. Air and ground units are working to extinguish the flames.

Cal Fire does not know what started the fire.

CHP is asking motorists not to drive to the area as it can cause congestion during firefighter efforts.

According to Cal Fire’s Twitter, “Firefighters are aggressively attacking from ground and air. No additional resources are being ordered.”
