Watsonville field workers sent to hospital for pesticide exposure

Six field workers were sent to the hospital for pesticide exposure in Wastsonville at about 8:30 a.m. Thursday morning, according to the Santa Cruz County Agricultural Commissioner’s Office

Commissioner Juan Hidalgo said the incident happened near Wagner Rd. And East Lake Ave.

The county has an open investigation into the incident and is trying to figure out which pesticide workers were exposed to.

It is also unknown which company was applying the pesticide at the time of the exposure, or which company employs the workers.

Hidalgo said if the investigation finds any wrongdoing, the company responsible for the exposure could face fines.

This incident comes just days after 18 other Salinas field workers were sickened by pesticides on June 23.
