Purse thief run down by pregnant victim
An Asheville, North Carolina woman took matters into her own hands Wednesday (6/28) when a man allegedly made off with her purse in the parking lot of Walmart, getting into her car and running him down as he fled. “I was not going to let him get away with it,” 26-year-old Christine Braswell said of Robert Raines, the man suspected of attempting to steal her purse. “It’s not right. It’s not fair.” Braswell, who is five months pregnant, recounted giving a brief chase on foot, getting in her car and driving over the median in order to catch up to Raines. Raines, who was hospitalized with minor injuries, has been charged with breaking and entering, larceny, and misdemeanor damage to property and is expected to make a full recovery. Braswell herself has been charged with assault with a deadly weapon.
